How To

Summary

This information is to help determine whether an Expert Pre-sale and/or Pre-install Technical and Delivery Assessment (TDA) is required. SA855

Steps

You should be using IMPACT to complete your Checklists, submit your TDA Requests and document your reviews for Systems opportunities.  All required Checklists are in IMPACT.  Please use the link below to sign into IMPACT with your IBMid and password.  Note, IBM Business Partners also have access to IMPACT if they have a valid IBMid, password and are listed in their company's IBM Profile in PartnerPlus.

Locating the Trigger Criteria Lists & Education

 How to Read the Trigger Criteria and Designated Product List

Definitions
R = Highly Recommended
M = Mandatory
FICL = First In Client Location - unique physical address; this includes new systems, POCs, Try-n-buys (Trials) and Loaners
ALL = All proposals, orders and installations; this includes new systems, POCs, Try-n-buys (Trials) and Loaners
Superscript 1 = Product will not ship if Mandatory Pre-install TDA is not completed.  Some products also require the completion of the TDA Confirmation Form in Resource Link.

Pre-sale
The column titled Pre-sale TDA identifies which products and solutions require an Expert Pre-sale Technical and Delivery Assessment (TDA).  This TDA is performed before the final proposal is presented to the Client and before the Client agrees to purchase.  This includes new systems, POCs, Try-n-buys (Trials) and Loaners.  Pre-sale TDAs may also be required on upgrades and MES's.
Pre-install
The column titled Pre-install TDA identifies which products and solutions require an Expert Pre-install Technical and Delivery Assessment (TDA).  All products and solutions in this column are "Mandatory" and some have a "Stop Ship" in place.  Those products and solutions with a Mandatory requirement with a Stop Ship are denoted with a Superscript 1 and have an explanation at the bottom of their respective table.  The Pre-install TDA is mandatory before the system installs, however those with the Stop Ship require the TDA completion and TDA confirmation before it will ship.  This includes new systems, POCs, Try-n-buys (Trials) and Loaners.  Pre-install TDAs may also be required on upgrades and MES's.  BEST PRACTICE:  Perform the Pre-install TDA right after the Client agrees to purchase.
** Don't forget that the IBM SSR and the Client are required on the Pre-install TDA.**

Examples:
ABC Inc. is interested in a proposal for a TS4500.  The Pre-sale TDA is R - FICL =  Highly Recommended for the First in Client Location.
ABC Inc. purchases a TS4500.  The Pre-install TDA is M - FICL =  Mandatory if it is the First in the Client Location.
ABC Inc. is interested in a proposal for a FlashSystem 7300.  The Pre-sale TDA is M - FICL =  Mandatory for the First in Client Location.
ABC Inc. is interested in purchasing a new LinuxOne III system.  The Pre-sale TDA is M - ALL =  Mandatory for all proposals and the Pre-install TDA is M - ALL1 =  Mandatory with a Stop Ship for all orders.  Before the order will ship, a TDA Confirmation Form must be submitted via Resource Link to confirm the completion of the Pre-install TDA.

The appropriate IBM-developed and published collateral must be used to facilitate and document a mandatory expert level Pre-sale or Pre-install Technical and Delivery Assessment (TDA).  You must use the most current version of the collateral found in IMPACT.  If you are reviewing a product that does not have a product-specific Checklist, then you must utilize the IBM-developed and published General Pre-sale and/or Pre-install checklists, also found in IMPACT.

 A = The process starts in Storage Modeller (StorM) and hands off to IMPACT.

 2 = New Elastic Storage Systems and Loaners through a Try & Buy Program will not ship if required Pre-install TDAs are not completed and the TDA Confirmation Form is not submitted through Resource Link. See the following comments.

New Elastic Storage Systems and Loaners through a Try & Buy Program (denoted with a superscript numeral 2) that require the submission of an order through manufacturing, require that a Pre-install TDA be confirmed before the order ships.  Note: Only one TDA Confirmation Form needs to be submitted for orders that match on the customer number, PSSD (schedule ship date) and MT.  Equipment sourced through the Loaner Pool does not require a TDA Confirmation Form.

ESS Loaners, PoCs, MES Upgrades, and Expansions still require the completion of both Pre-sale and Pre-install TDAs, but do not require the submission of the TDA Confirmation Form.

It is the responsibility of the Opportunity Owner (OO) to ensure that the reviews are successfully completed and confirmed with the submission of a TDA Confirmation Form before the scheduled ship date.  The TDA Confirmation Forms are on the Resource Link website.  For any issues with the Resource Link website, send an email to reslink@us.ibm.com.

Special Note for Business Partners

The purpose of a Pre-sale TDA Checklist is to provide a roadmap of questions to use when reviewing a configuration and proposal for IBM products and solutions. The purpose of a Pre-install TDA Checklist is to provide a roadmap of questions to use when assessing site readiness and preparing for the installation or implementation. These reviews occur at two different and distinct points in the sales cycle. IBM developed product/solution-specific documentation must be used, completed, and stored by IBM personnel and Business Partners, who are involved in the Pre-sale and/or Pre-install Technical and Delivery Assessment (TDA), as evidence of a completed expert review.

These documents have not been subjected to any formal IBM test and are distributed on an "as-is" basis without any warranty either expressed or implied. Contents must be evaluated for applicability to a particular proposal. Pertinent information from these documents can be discussed with, and/or abstracted for a presentation to a Client. However, any code included is for internal information purposes only and can not be given to Clients. If included code is identified as "incidental programming", its use must conform to IBM guidelines. IBM or BP personnel can make reproductions of this information for their own use. Responsibility for maintaining appropriate security accompanies such reproductions.

In these documents, any references made to an IBM licensed program are not intended to state or imply that only IBM's licensed program can be used; any functionally equivalent program might be used instead. References in these publications to IBM products, programs, or services do not imply that IBM intends to make these available outside of the United States.

The TDA documents do not contain all of the product information that can be required to design a complete solution or complete an installation. Additional product and related information can be referenced or found on the IBM website.
