Abstract
OCP 4.9 and future versions are not supported for Cloud Pak for Business Automation 21.0.2 and earlier. This issue is due to its inclusion of Kubernetes 1.22.

Kubernetes 1.22 removed some APIs that are vital to the functionality of the Cloud Pak for Business Automation (CP4BA) operator. This change requires major product changes to support this new version, which cannot be back ported to previous releases. It is expected that CP4BA 21.0.3 will support Kubernetes 1.22 and OCP 4.9 in addition to the other supported OCP versions for enterprise deployments.
Announcement: IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation 21.0.3 includes details of the 21.0.3 release and states that it will be an LTSR.
It is recommended that any CP4BA customer considering an upgrade of OCP to choose 4.8 as their target until first upgrading CP4BA to a version that supports more recent OCP versions. The Red Hat OpenShift support lifecycle provides you time to upgrade CP4BA before maintenance support ends.
If you upgrade your Red Hat OpenShift environment to 4.9 or later before you read this flash, then you have these options:
- Reinstall the software on a supported OCP version
- When CP4BA version 21.0.3 is released that supports 4.9, you can upgrade to correct the issue.
For the demo deployment, it is not known when support of OCP 4.9 or later will be added due to extra dependencies.
This issue also impacts CNCF installations of stand-alone software entitlements included in the Cloud Pak. It would impact any environment that uses Kubernetes 1.22 or later. Examples of the stand-alone software supporting CNCFs are:
- Business Automation Workflow
- FileNet Content Manager
