Abstract

From the Maximo Support Desk - Set Up The PM To Populate Work Order Fields

Body

"Why don't certain fields populate on the PM-generated Work Orders?"

I have been asked by many clients why certain fields don't populate on the Work Orders that get generated from Preventive Maintenance records.  There are a number of different prerequisite conditions for each field to populate, so I thought that the following list might be a useful guide, and an answer to these questions.  So, without further ado, I give you the results of my tested list of...

Conditions for Work Order Field Population on PM-generated Work Orders

The field on the Work Order is bolded, and the necessary condition on the PM record is described under each one:

WORKORDER.PARENT
On a PM with a Route, where child Work Orders are generated:
-Will populate on the child Work Orders

On a PM with a Route, where Entries in the Work Order's Multi-asset, Location and CI Table are generated:
Not applicable/will not populate

On a PM with a Route, where Work Order Tasks are generated:
Not applicable/will not populate

WORKORDER.DESCRIPTION
-Will populate with the Description value from the PM, even if there is an associated Job Plan with a Description
-Will populate with the Description value from the Job Plan if there is no Description value on the PM
Note: On a Route Stop/Child Work Order, the Description will populate with the Asset/Location Description

WORKORDER.WORKTYPE
-Will populate on all Work Orders if the Work Type is specified on the PM

WORKORDER.PMNUM
-Will populate on Parent Work Order only when a Route is used on the PM; will not populate on child Work Orders/Route stops
-Will populate on Parent Work Order only when a Job Plan is used on the PM(with or without a Route); will not populate on child Work Orders/Task Work Orders

WORKORDER.CREWID
-Will populate with the Crew value from the PM
-Will populate with the Crew value from the PM, even if there is an associated Job Plan with a (different) Crew value
-Will populate with the Crew value from the Job Plan only if there is not a Crew value on the PM

WORKORDER.SUPERVISOR
-Will populate with the Supervisor value from the PM only;
-Will not populate with the Supervisor value from Job Plan, even if the Job Plan is on a PM;
If there is no Supervisor on the PM and you want the Supervisor from a Job Plan to be carried over to the Work Order generated from the PM, then you need to create a Crossover Domain from Job Plans to PMs. This domain will copy the Supervisor from the Job Plan to the PM, so it can then populate the Work Order.

Summary: The only way a Supervisor value will be populated on a PM-generated Work Order is when there is a Supervisor value on the PM.
