Summary

The customer has a problem with Controller Web and would like more (log) information.

Objective

There are many different logs that can be captured and analyzed in Controller Web.

When analyzing any problems in Controller Web, then normally the default log files (C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\ccr_64\fcmweb\wlp\usr\servers\fcm.web\logs) are sufficient.

This document specifically relates to the scenario where the customer would like to temporarily increase the amount of information captured in the log files.
We need to create or increase the following log files:
  • com.ibm.cognos.fcm.log
  • trace.log
  • DEBUG.log

Steps

  1. Make sure you are using a supported version of Controller.
  2. Make sure that there is no active session of the Controller Web application.
  3. Log in to the Controller Web application server.
  4. Browse to the folder: C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\ccr_64\fcmweb\wlp\usr\servers\fcm.web\apps\wmc-rest.war\WEB-INF\classes\
  5. Create a backup copy of the prod-log4j2.xml file.
  6. Use a text editor to edit the prod-log4j2.xml file.
  7. Modify logger level from info to debug in the following line: <Logger name="com.ibm.cognos.fcm" level="info" additivity="true">
  8. Save the changes.
  9. Restart the Controller Web application server.
